Tactical Edge is the martial arts system founded by Mark Davies. Tactical Edge was originally created as a combatives system for Special Forces, who Mark is an instructor to. People kept looking for Reality Based Martial Arts instruction from Mark, so he developed a civilian Tactical Edge system. Down through the years Mark has expanded the civilian system into a comprehensive martial system, with a fantastic syllabus & tonnes of great material for its students to learn. Tactical Edge has always been an 'adults only' system, but for the past couple of years Mark has been working on a juniors version of Tactical Edge. Mark felt that there was plenty of choice for children or parents looking for a 'traditional martial art' for kids, or for a 'martial sport' for their kids. Mark wanted to be able to offer something totally different; something that emphasised cutting edge self defence & personal safety skills, along with fitness training & life-skills coaching. A system that kids would find exciting, & refreshingly 'different' to the normal classes available.

Tactical Edge is growing quickly across the UK, with some of the UK's most senior & experienced instructors joining Marks Instructors Programme & starting to teach his Adults Tactical Edge system. He now has classes in Edinburgh, Livingston, Newcastle, Leeds, Crowborough (North London), North Devon, & Northern Ireland; along with his own classes in Arbroath & Montrose. 'Tactical Edge Special Operations Group' is our new syllabus for children, & will be launching in Arbroath & Montrose soon.
It is for children between 10 & 16, although we allow students graduating from our Little Ninjas programme to join younger than 10.
Childrens Self Defence with Tactical Edge
Tactical Edge is a martial system which is specifically aimed at self defence. Different types of martial art specialise in different areas. Some are 'sports' & aren't immediately suited to self defence & personal safety because of the type of techniques taught & the rules they adhere to. Some are 'arts' & once again teach movements that aren't immediately practical, & are more about aesthetics than practicality. This is NOT a criticism, it's just the speciality of the particular style. Tactical Edge isn't concerned with 'sport' or 'art', it is specialised as a personal safety & self defence system. Tactical Edge- Special Operations Group teaches young people an effective method of self defence, but also adds in great fitness training, attribute building (building co-ordination, balance, control, focus; valuable physical & mental attributes), confidence building, & positive life-skills coaching.
In the 'Tactical Edge- Special Operations Group' class children get a good warm-up & work on cardio-vascular fitness, strength & flexibility. They get taught a variety of physical techniques consisting of strikes & takedowns. They have great fun developing their strikes on focus pads, shields & punch bags. They learn how to physically protect themselves from common street attacks by training in what we call 'situationals', where we put them in various situations & teach them how to deal with them. We have different drills & games to teach them about awareness & prevention, & we use some of the preventative skills used in VIP Protections (bodyguarding) to avoid dangerous situations. We teach them about how they can use body language & awareness to avoid bullying, & how to react to bully's if they can't avoid them altogether. We are the leading experts on anti bullying in Angus & Tayside.
In our Special Operations Group our kids get to develop their co-ordination, spacial awareness, timing, & distancing by learning some stickwork. Drawn from the Filipino martial arts, single & double stick turbo-charges your co-ordinations skills like nothing else. We have a special curriculum which teaches them stickwork as a fun way of building attributes, NOT as a weapon. The kids get to have fun learning how to use some everyday objects in self defence, things like a simple bandanna/scarf/tie/belt/towel can be utilised as an effective yet non-damaging self defence tool.

Tactical Edge Special Operations Group will be an exciting alternative to mainstream martial arts. Most kids love spy films & action hero's, & this is their chance to feel like their favorite action star. However, it is a fantastic syllabus & emphasises great values that go way beyond the physical side of training. It is without doubt an increasingly dangerous & violent society, & the knowledge that your child knows how to look after themselves intelligently is a great comfort. Many children who wouldn't be attracted to the normal oriental martial arts will LOVE this class!
